Religious Activities

1n 1996 the present Sri Ramakrishna Temple was inaugurated by his Holiness Srimat Swami Gahananandaji Maharaj, the then Vice-President of Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math. Its foundation stone was laid by his Holiness Srimat Swami Bhuteshanandaji Maharaj, 12th President, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math in 1983. The newly built temple is regarded as a masterpiece of its nature in this island and has become a source of solace for all. Throughout the year the Ashrama has a schedule of daily worship, aratrika, bhajan, prayer and meditation in the morning and evening. Monks, Brahamacharins, students and other inmates of the Ashrama avail of the sacred environment at the temple.

On all Ekadashi days Sri Ramnam Sankirtan is organized at the temple and participated by inmates / devotees. Every year we celebrate Gurupurnima and Srikrishna Janmasthami Celebrations in the Sri Ramakrishna Temple with a Special Puja, Bhajan, Devotional Songs, reading from GITA and also Shyamnam Sankirtan after evening Aratrika. Devotees and admirers of the Ashrama keenly participated in these programmes.  

Daily spiritual class is taken after aratrika. Special religious classes are held twice a week at the temple. Monthly classes and occasional lectures at different places inside and outside the Island are also held highlighting the teachings of Sri Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sri Ma and Swamiji.

Sri Sri Durga Puja: Every year on the occasion of Sri Sri Durga Puja, special puja of Bhagawan Sri Ramakrishna Deva, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi and the Devine Mother Sri Sri Durga are held on  MAHASTAMI DAY with also reading from Sri Sri Chandi, Devotional Songs, Bhajan, Aratrika and Havan.

Sri Sri Kali Puja: Every year Sri Sri Kali Puja  is done in image and celebrated with Devotional Songs, Aratrika and Havan

X-mas Eve Celebration:
X-mas eve was celebrated in Sri Ramakrishna Temple on 24th December 2014. On this occasion, a special puja was performed for Jesus Christ and a meeting was organised to the discuss the life of Jesus. On this occasion Swami Durgatmananda, Secretary gave a lecture on the life and teaching of Jesus Christ.

Bhakta Sammelan: 
As in last several years, this year also we organized a day long Bhakta Sammelan in the month December at the premises of Gangasagar Sub-Centre. More or less five hundred devotees, hundreds of Monks & Nun of different organizations at Gangasagar were present and participated in the Bhakta Sammelan. The programme was started at about 9.00 am. Devotional Song, reading and discourses on Sri Sri Ramakrishna Kathamrita, reading from Swamiji’s Complete Works and Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi’s life were read out. Devotees very much enjoyed the spiritual atmosphere which was created in presence of Monks, Devotees from outside and others. Tiffin, Tea, noon prasada and Sadhu Bhandera were served. The Secretary welcomed all the devotees who participated in the Sammelan.

Sri Sri Shivaratri is observed every year with formal dignity.
